2015 Rockbarn Resort “BIG Champion of the Year Steve Scarborough”
2015 - Stevie-Ray rallies in very difficult final day conditions to capture his first BIG title.

The 2015 BIG tournament was held at the two spectacular golf courses at Rockbarn Resort near Hickory, NC. The tough Jones course was once a stop for the Sr. PGA tour and the shorter Jackson course was an eye candy masterpiece. After the first two days of stroke play a familiar name, none other than Inaugural BIG Champion Larry Alligood, stood atop the leaderboard with a commanding 7 point lead over Steve and Fred. The former champ dismantling the Jones course (+8) on Day 1, followed by a stout +4 on the Jackson course on Day 2, and had himself in prime position to become the first WIRE TO WIRE winner of the coveted BIG Stogey.
The Day 3 weather conditions had another plan for the back to back hopeful. It presented the players a raw, sunny, breezy, uncomfortably cold day and threw in a sprinkle of wind gusts in excess of 30 mph to keep things interesting and turn the competition into a battle of survival. The scores reflected the challenging battle conditions, as most of the field struggled in the elements, including leader Laer-bear Alligood, who unfortunately posted a -8 day and ended up +4 for the tournament. This opened the door to the trophy room as three players were able to fight thru and pull plus points on the exposed Jones course. When the scores were counted and posted, it came as no surprise that a player from the north who’s game was honed by playing in extreme conditions such as these, stood atop the BIG podium in the form of none other than Stevie Ray Scarborough. He mastered the elements in an incredible +6 fashion to claim his first BIG Stogey championship at +11. He was followed by Chris and KK, who were the only other 2 players in the 16 player field to pull plus points (+2) on the day. They both finished a distant 2nd at +5 for the tournament. As is usually the custom, prior year 2014 Champ Steve Cranford took home the $1 toilet trophy at -13. Congrats to the Steve and Steve champs, both trophies well deserved!
The 2015 BIG welcomed in a couple of NEWBIES including none other than his excellence, the one – the only – Bobby MaGee! Shout out goes to my dear neighbor, the honorable Ron Stevens, who gladly stepped in to fill in for our boi’ Charlie, who was unable to swing due to a few accidents (the picture says it all). The newbies did us proud and wore the pink teddy like none other before them, especially our boy BOOBIES MaGee, I mean Bobby MaGee (again, the picture says it all). My wife had to plead with him to get her teddy back. For me, it never looked the same!
Joining the two newbies in the 2015 BIG field were Larry, StephenC, Freddy, Doug, Chris, Paul, KK, TonyLo, the Rickster, Ryan, CUZ, TonyV and the tournament champ Stevie-Ray.
