2021 Sky Valley “BIG Champion of the Year Scotty DePiazza”

Struggling to hold it together and pull his points in the final round, a dejected Scotty D came to the final hole just knowing he had blown a golden opportunity to capture his first BIG Stogey title. Somehow his second shot into the short Par 4 just barely avoided the water. From there he was able to chip to 10 feet and carve out a 2-point par leaving him 1 quota point short for the day. As Scotty grimaced the missed opportunity, the scoring committee was hastily doing a final calculation of the leader board. When all scores were tallied the board revealed that his meaningless par on the final hole happened to be just enough to allow a dejected Scotty to capture his first BIG Stogey by a single point over a hard charging Paul Graham (who had a +6 final round performance). At +7 KK made things interesting but fell just a tad short as well.

2021 had no pink teddy fashion show as all contestants were returning BIG members. Freddy Evans did put on a “what not to wear” fashion clinic, showing up for post round 3 giggle golf in a sporty lime green and black Ricky Fowler wannabee get up. The competition included Larry, BobC, Jaaaccckkk, father-son team of Stephen & Jeremy, Dylan, the brothers Graham, Hackett, TonyLo, KK, father-son team of Rick & Ryan, Woodrow, Bobby Magee, BrianS, the brothers Tony & Darrell along with the 2021 champ, No Stripes Scotty D!

One of the more comedic moments of the 2021 BIG had to be during round 2, when fast Freddy (who was unable to compete due to surgery) showed up on the 8th hole and found out that he had as many points that day as Bobby MaGee! As all who know him, Freddy is certainly one for picking at a scab if the opportunity presents itself! Poor Bobby. At the turn Freddy proudly announced he was still tied with our boy Magee. To his credit Bobby showed ol’ Freddy who his daddy was on the back by pulling 4 points.

The 2020 recipient Larry Alligood presented the 2021 Griffin Cup award to a shocked, surprised and (here’s a twist) speechless William Hackett. No one can argue that there certainly isn’t a more deserving recipient and it only took him 4 or so low country boils and fish fries to win us over! All kidding aside congrats William, Charlie could not be happier to see you represent! For Larry’s creative selection, the BIG Committee awarded the 2020 BIG Champ the $1 Toilet Bowl Trophy for stellar play in the race for last.

A very BIG shoutout to 2019 Newbie Bob Chance, who had a presentation of his own to hand out. For those that don’t know, Professor Chance has his very own ceramic shop at home. He handmade beautiful ceramic mugs (and over the years some pretty cool ball markers and various other ceramic cups) for all his brothers. World class act, thank you Bob! Gives me joy to see how you have joined the many in embracing the specialness of our brotherhood. Cheers mate!
