2011 Pinehurst-Tobacco Road “BIG Champion of the Year Tony Vaughn”

(First of all, let me apologize for I could not find many or any photos of the 2011 and 2014 BIG. That was back when I had my new-fangled telephoto digital camera and for some reason the photos were never captured on a computer roll and I lost the camera photo card, hence the hodge podge of 2011 Champ TonyV pictures with the guys on this page. That being said…let’s get to the ACTION!)

In spite of some stellar play by the feature group, highlighted by clutch shot after clutch shot from Charles “Shakey Earl” Griffin, it was not enough to hold off a barrage of 5 birdies in the final round by former BIG Champion Tony Vaughn as he ran down and beat out Charlie from 7 points behind for a bittersweet victory at the wild and crazy Tobacco Road Golf Club. On the day Mr. Vaughn was a record +14 as he pulled an incredible 38 points enroute to a solid 75 (+5 in bonus points) to shoot up the leaderboard and snatch the BIG Stogey out of Charlie’s mouth by 2 points. What a spectacular round of golf the two time BIG champ played on the unforgettable and very daunting, but incredibly scenic, Tobacco Road layout.

The BIG was proud to welcome into the 2011 class NEWBIES my personal favorite BIG brother in real life, the legend himself, the one – the only – brotha Pauly Graham along with the even keeled gentleman known as Booker T Davis.

2011 will be remembered for the highly anticipated fish fry that tasted like PIZZA! Have Cuz and brotha Paul tell you that story if you weren’t there. Rumor has it bad golf along with lemonade and vodka (seems to be a trend) had something to do with that. Nothing more exciting than a pack of late night drunk hungry golfers standing around with nothing to eat. To the brothers that made the midnight pizza run for the gang, thank you very much! All I have to say is thank goodness we now have a FOOD CZAR!

In addition to the fine newbies Brotha Paul and Booker T the BIG 2011 event included a stellar field of core BIGs – Larry, StephenC, Freddy, Crissy, Charlie, RickM, Doug, Cuz and my boi’ TonyV.
